The large touring cars with the intricate RS monogram on the radiator grille were the pride of Lyon, the second stronghold of the French car industry after Paris: the Rochet-Schneider brand had its roots - like so many others - in the manufacture of bicycles, in this case including tricycles and baby carriages. In 1891, the Rochet brothers began to construct motorized vehicles; first a steam-powered tricycle was created, followed in 1894 by a four-wheeled cart with vis-à-vis seats and a single-cylinder engine from De Dion-Bouton. A solvent partner was found in the textile merchant Théodore Schneider, who provided the company with a boost.
