As part of the AACA Fall Meeting in Hershey, Pennsylvania, RM Sotheby's offered 144 automobiles and two rolling sales stands for auction. 140 of these were sold for a total of 13.4 million US dollars. Almost unusually for an auction of this caliber, no lot achieved a seven-figure price. The most expensive car in Hershey was a Bugatti 57 Cabriolet, which was knocked down for 690,000 dollars and sold for 759,000 dollars. The Panhard & Levassor Type Q from 1908, which was previously estimated to be the most valuable lot (up to USD 1,200,000), had to settle for 605,000 dollars and second place. Also unusual: pre-war models made up the 16 most expensive sales at the auction. The first post-war car followed in 17th place with a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible (USD 178,750). However, this dominance is somewhat put into perspective when you consider that, at 97 cars, well over half of the cars on offer were built in 1942 or earlier.
