RM/Sotheby's St. Moritz 2022 auction - rather an Aston than a Bugatti
Summary
22 cars were offered for sale on September 9, 2022 as part of the International St. Moritz Automobile Week by RM/Sotheby's at the Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz. From racing cars to super classics, everything was there, valued at an average of over one million francs. The bidding public did not follow the recommendations and specifications in all cases, and more than half of the cars remained unsold, including the Bugatti 57S Atalante, which was estimated at CHF 10 to 12 million. The most expensive car, meanwhile, was an Aston Martin. This auction report analyzes the results and shows the cars in pictures.

On the evening of September 9, 2022, 22 cars worth CHF 26.3 million were auctioned off at the Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz and its tennis hall. Like last year, the auction took place as part of the International St. Moritz Automobile Week and offered the certainly not poor public the opportunity to purchase special cars. On average, the cars were just under 36 years old and cost over a million. Two of them were offered without a reserve price. The auction lasted around an hour and a quarter and there was no shortage of highlights. On average, 76% of the median estimate was bid. However, only nine vehicles were sold outright and 13 could not be sold immediately. A sales rate of 41% is not good, nor is the fact that the first car, a Ferrari F360 Spider from 2003, was sold for just CHF 36,800 (EUR 38,272). It was one of the two "no reserve" vehicles.
