Preview (beginning of the article)
The auction marathon, to which RM/Sotheby's had invited guests to Monterey from August 13 to 15, 2015, lasted three days. 152 vehicles were registered, two were withdrawn at short notice. It all started with the "Pinnacle Portfolio", a super sports car collection with 25 sports cars from the 1950s to the modern era, which together had already been estimated at around USD 84 million. The remaining 125 went under the hammer over two further days in front of a large audience. The total value of all the vehicles was close to USD 200 million, which meant well over a million per vehicle and ruled out small credit buyers from the outset.
