Preview (beginning of the article)
Amelia Island's Concours d'Elegance provided the perfect setting for RM Auctions' auction. And RM had put together an interesting offer, including five Cord, four Lincoln, four Packard, two Duesenberg, six Porsche, eight Ferrari, one Hispano-Suiza, one Isotta Fraschini and one Pegaso, a total of 87 automobiles. The total offer represented a value of around USD 30 million, an average of USD 380,000 per vehicle, and RM customers came in large numbers to bid. After less than six hours, 80 of the cars had found new owners, which corresponds to a sales rate of around 92%. By far the most expensive car on March 9, 2013 was a 1935 Duesenberg Model SJ Convertible Coupe by Walker-LaGrande. With a supercharged 320 hp engine and the only vehicle ever with this configuration, the elegant convertible did not disappoint. The bidding only ended at USD 4.1 million, which clearly missed the upper estimate but exceeded the lower one.
