If you think prices can't go any higher, you'll be proven wrong after the Arizona auction week. Gooding auctioned off a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster from 1957 for no less than USD 1.4 million (including surcharge, USD 1.54 million, or CHF 1.43 million or Euro 1.16 million). Until recently, 1 million for the open-top 300 SL was still the sound barrier. But it was not only the highest bid for the 300 SL that caused astonishment among experts. In the elegant surroundings of Fashion Square, Scottsdale's clothing paradise, Gooding & Co offered 104 vehicles for sale over two afternoons under a beautifully decorated tent city. Around 800 participants, mainly from the USA, attended the auction. The estimated prices alone would have been enough to deter buyers, as they were certainly not low. But the bidders wanted to know.
