Oldsmobile was the oldest or longest-lived car brand ever to be discontinued. - Ransom Eli Olds began manufacturing automobiles in 1897 at the age of 33. In 1899, he built America's first factory specifically geared towards car production. He also developed the first supplier network and was the first to introduce an assembly line in 1901. That year, the Olds Motor Vehicle Company produced 425 Oldsmobile Curved Dash Runabouts, an open two-seater whose curved front end gave it its name. With sales in 18 countries, Oldsmobile became the first US brand to export extensively in 1904. Oldsmobile remained the largest car manufacturer until 1905; in that year, 6500 cars were built and a two-cylinder model was offered in addition to the single-cylinder model. In 1908, the brand was integrated into General Motors.
