It is extremely nice to give your spouse a car. But it is even nicer to dedicate an entire car brand to your wife under her first name. Jean Tastevin, owner of the Compagnie Française des Produits Métallurgiques in Balbigny near Lyon, was at least as thoughtful as this. In addition to freight wagons for the railroads, this company was also to produce luxury wagons of the Monica brand, according to plans that had already begun in 1968. Tastevin had found an experienced small series designer in Englishman Chris Lawrence. A tubular steel frame with sheet steel reinforcements served as the basic framework, with triangular wishbones at the front and a De Dion axle at the rear. Although the axle drive came from the Rover 3500, the engine was a racing-style 3.4 L OHC V8 with 240 hp developed by Ted Martin in England.
