From 1901, the brothers Benjamin and William Jowett and A. V. Lamb in Bradford, Yorkshire, constructed V2 motorcycle engines (including the Scott-Jowett). From 1905, they developed a small car weighing 305 kg with a 2-cylinder boxer engine and 3-speed gearbox in a single unit. However, production of the Jowett 6 HP Six cwt. did not get going until 1910. In 1921, the displacement of this"lightest and most economical car" increased from 850 to 907 cm3. A four-seater weighing 535 kg was added in 1923, and closed bodies were also available from 1924. In 1926, the first east-west crossing of Africa by car (6100 km from Lagos to Massawa in two months) was achieved with two Jowett 7 HPs.
