There have been around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of them have disappeared. Johnson is one of these vanished brands. Norman W. Johnson has been involved with cars all his life. At the beginning of 1980, he had the idea of producing a touring car inspired by the 1930s that combined the classic elegance of the period with the reliability of a modern automobile. In September 1980, Norman Johnson began designing the prototype together with Bruce Johnson, and gradually more changes were made until the first test drive could be made in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in April 1981. The Johnson Presidential with "rumble-seat convertible body" was a retro classic in the style of a Dusenberg, Auburn or Mercedes-Benz K-series, with an interior made of the finest leather, wood and other fine materials. The V-8 engine from General Motors created a driving experience of superior power and character. The equipment included chrome exhaust pipes leading out of the hood on both sides, six-spoke wheels, power steering operated by a wooden steering wheel and, among many other comfort features, air conditioning and a stereo system.
