The Austin-Healey built from 1952 to 1970 became far better known than the Jensen-Healey, which was only built for four years. The sports car company founded by Donald Healey in 1946 was decisive for both brands. The Norwegian-born US car dealer Kjell H. Qvale was looking for a successor to the Austin-Healey that had been successfully sold in California and got in touch with Healey. In 1970, a consortium led by Qvale took over Jensen Motors Ltd in West Bromwich, Staffordshire. This company had already manufactured the Austin-Healey bodies. The Jensen luxury coupés were then joined by a smaller sports convertible already developed by Donald and his son Geoffrey Healey. It was powered by a 1973 cc four-cylinder aluminum engine with two overhead camshafts and 16 valves. The 4-speed gearbox came from Chrysler U.K., the front suspensions and the rear rigid axle from Vauxhall.
