Preview (beginning of the article)
On 11 November 2023, Iconic Auctioneers organized its second auction under the new name (formerly Silverstone Auctions) at the NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham. On Saturday, 165 vehicles were on offer, including a boat and a tractor. The total value had been estimated in advance at around £9 million, so each vehicle was expected to fetch around £55,000. The auction marathon lasted over six hours, with bidders' interest waning considerably towards the end. For a classic car auction, the average age of the vehicles was a relatively young 43 years, despite the fact that nine of the cars were built before the end of the Second World War.
