Just as R. E. Olds had already upgraded his family name to a car brand with the suffix -mobile before him, Robert Craig Hupp, supported by his brother Louis Gorham Hupp, came up with his own brand in 1909. He had started his career at Oldsmobile. The Hupp Motor Car Company in Detroit initially produced runabouts, doorless open two-seaters for entry-level motorization. Thanks to an experienced team, 5,300 cars were sold by 1910, including a new four-seater tourer, also with a four-cylinder engine. But as early as 1911, Hupp left his company to found the new brand RCH under his initials - just as Olds had done with his Reo brand in 1905.
