Summary
Gooding & Co was once again able to come up with superlatives when the bidders arrived at the annual auction in Pebble Beach on August 16 and 17, 2019. The 139 vehicles were estimated at an average of almost one million. It didn't go quite that high, but in the end USD 77 million was realized, even though eight of the 20 most valuable cars did not find a new owner. As expected, the most expensive car was a Ferrari 250 GT California Spider. There were also some bargains, including an Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato and an Austin-Healey 100/4 BN2. This auction review analyzes the results and shows many of the cars in pictures.

As every year, bidders at the Gooding & Co auction on August 16 and 17, 2019 were in for some treats. On average, the vehicles, including one motorcycle, were 56 years old, but the age spectrum ranged from 1910 to 2019. 39 percent of the lots were offered without a reserve price. 107 vehicles (77 percent) were sold, on average not quite 73 percent of the median estimate was offered, so that in the end around USD 77 million (USD 717,653 per vehicle) was raised.
