Summary
On September 3, 2022, Gooding & Co put 37 cars (and two engines) under the hammer at the Hampton Court Palace Concours of Elegance in London. 76 percent of the vehicles, valued at around GBP 33.1 million, were sold. A Ferrari 250 GT SWB, a Bugatti 55 and a Porsche 550 Spyder together fetched almost GBP 13 million. However, the highest bids showed that a lot of optimism had gone into the estimates. The surprise of the day was a Citroën 2 CV, which sold for more than double the expected price. This auction report analyzes the results and shows all the cars in pictures.

Preview (beginning of the article)
Following the successful 2020 Lifetime Sale, Gooding & Co physically returned to Europe to auction 37 cars (and two Ferrari engines - a 250 GT V12 engine sold for £135,750 and the V6 of a 246 F1-66 Tipo 228 realized £174,375) at the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace on September 3, 2022. The cars were estimated at just over £33.1 million in total, so £871,316 per car was expected. With an average selling price of £782,324, this figure was only just missed, but only 76 percent (28 cars) were sold. This resulted in total sales of £21.9 million. On average, the vehicles were almost 68 years old, so the pre-war proportion was considerable. A good third of the lots went under the hammer without a reserve price.
