Summary
A Maserati that became a legend bears Giugiaro's signature: the Ghibli. The year was 1966 and today Giugiaro is regarded as one of the great automotive designers of our time. Together with Pinin Farina, Giovanni Michelotti and Marcello Gandini, Giugiaro represents the cream of all those creatively gifted individuals who helped the Italian car body to achieve world renown. With the Maserati Ghibli, the extremely elegant sports car with a long snout and short rear end that became almost synonymous with a new styling era, its designer Giorgietto Giugiaro also achieved legendary status. He is rightly regarded as one of the greatest Italian designers of our time. Together with Pinin Farina, Giovanni Michelotti and Marcello Gandini, Giugiaro represents the cream of all those creatively gifted individuals who helped Italian coachwork to achieve world renown. Giugiaro was born on August 7, 1938, the same year and month as Marcello Gandini - what a coincidence! Giugiaro's father and grandfather, Mario and Luigi, had hoped that Giorgetto would one day follow them in their trade, namely the execution of frescoes in churches and stately homes. Instead, the young Giugiaro was soon to be found at a drawing table designing automobiles.
