Martin Fischer (1867-1947) was one of the most ingenious Swiss car designers, and he actually worked in Switzerland. Originally a watchmaker, his talent predestined him to invent pioneering technical solutions in various fields. These included a friction gear, which made it possible to dispense with the complex gearwheel power transmissions, and the removable wheel. After designing Turicum brand cars from 1904 to 1908, Martin Fischer founded a new company in Zurich under his own name. For the development and manufacture of further models, he gained the silk merchant H. Spörri as a financier and the Weidmann & Co. factory as a production facility. Initially, lightweight four-cylinder cars with friction gears were produced there. However, Martin Fischer worked on a revolutionary power transmission with internal gearing, and also in 1910, he presented a slider engine. Both were installed in Fischer carriages from the following year.
