Farus 1981-1990 - Engine mix
Summary
There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of them have disappeared. One of these lost brands is the Brazilian car manufacturer Farus. Most of Brazil's many small car manufacturers remained loyal to their engine suppliers. Not so Farus Indústria de Veículos Esportivos Ltda. in Belo Horizonte, which was founded in 1981. Its first model, the 2+2-seater coupé ML 929, had a 72 hp 1.3 L engine/transmission unit from Fiat Brasil installed transversely in front of the rear axle. The new brand thus did justice to the targeted Italian flair, as the flat front section was reminiscent of the Dino 308 GT. The attractive GRP body was bolted onto a combined central beam and tubular frame structure. The TS 1.6 was added in 1981, with an 80 hp engine from the VW do Brasil Passat. But as early as 1982, the Farus industrial group ran into financial difficulties and its car branch, which produced around 20 cars a month, was sold to Embrabi Comércio e Indústrias Ltda.
