Claudio Zampolli (C. Z. = Cizeta) was behind this superlative Italian sports car. He had successfully established himself in Los Angeles as a dealer and tuning specialist for Lamborghini and Ferrari. But his dream car aimed higher: mid-engine with 16 cylinders transversely behind the cockpit with a longitudinally mounted ZF 5-speed gearbox; 5995 cm3 displacement, four camshafts, 64 valves, 560 hp at 9000 rpm. The Cizeta V16 T was presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show in December 1988. Claudio Zampolli founded Cizeta Srl in Modena, which was managed by his brother Fabio Zampolli, and Cizeta Moroder Automobili USA Inc. in Santa Monica (California). In pop composer Giorgio Moroder ("Flashdance", "Top Gun", "Hand in Hand"), C. Z. had found a financial backer for the ambitious plans. The brand name was extended to Cizeta Moroder.
