Among Italy's many post-war start-ups, Cisitalia quickly became particularly well known. From 1945, the Turin entrepreneur Piero Dusio had single and two-seater racing cars with tubular chassis built, which were successfully raced by Italy's most renowned drivers. In 1947, the Coupé Sport Speciale was added to the Spider. It was also powered by the 1089 cc engine from the Fiat 1100, which had its own cylinder head. As the Cisitalia 202 with bodywork by Pinin Farina, this coupé designed by engineer Giovanni Savonuzzi was chosen by the New York Museum of Modern Art as a prime example of modern technology and architecture . The shape, with the hood embedded deep between the wheel arches, was to have a decisive influence on automobile design. By 1949/50, 170 Cisitalia 202 coupés and convertibles had been built, mostly with a Pinin-Farina body.
