Before looking at the Brasier brand, it is important to look at Richard-Brasier: The bicycle manufacturer Georges Richard created car prototypes from 1895, and the Georges Richard brand existed from 1897 to 1902. In 1901, he hired engine designer Charles-Henri Brasier, who had previously helped the competition cars of rival Emile Mors to major race victories. In 1902, they founded the Richard-Brasier brand with headquarters in Paris and a factory in Ivry. They secured various patents, such as for automatic carburetor regulation, and excelled with racing models. However, Georges Richard suffered serious injuries in the infamous Paris-Madrid race of 1903. In 1904 and 1905, a Richard-Brasier driven by Léon Théry went on to win the Gordon-Bennett race, which was held on secondary roads instead of the major city thoroughfares.
