Summary
Bonhams offered 108 cars worth around a quarter of a billion USD in Scottsdale on January 16, 2020. While the flagship, a 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 with Figoni bodywork, could not be sold despite bids of over eight million USD, a Dodge Viper RT/10 achieved a record price of USD 285,500. However, it was not the only surprise. Nevertheless, familiar trends were confirmed. Overall, 82 percent of the cars were sold, on average for USD 95,872. This auction report analyzes the results and shows all the cars in the picture.

Preview (beginning of the article)
Bonhams offered 108 cars worth around 250 million American dollars for sale in Scottsdale on January 16, 2020. On average, a car should cost around USD 230,000. The range was huge, with 50 brands represented. Only Porsche and Ford were on the lot list with a double-digit contingent, but there were many brands such as Auburn, Cord, Lotus, REO, Volvo and Willys, which only had one car in the "race". With an average age of around 58 years, all age groups were well represented. On average, the bids reached 72% of the median estimate. 82% of the cars were sold, on average for USD 95,872. Probably the biggest surprise was a very special Dodge Viper. Normally, these early convertibles are auctioned for around USD 25,000 to 50,000, but Bonhams had set the estimated value of the car on offer at USD 100,000 to 120,000.
