Bonhams "Le grandes marques à Monaco" 2018 - big surprises and some bargains
Summary
The Grand Prix Historique Monaco, an internationally acclaimed event that only takes place every two years and looks back on the history of the famous city circuit, once again provided a more than suitable setting for the auction of just over 50 rare racing and sports cars at Bonhams. While the ex-Senna cars, a McLaren, a Toleman and a mysterious Michelotti Jaguar were very expensive, other vehicles went for surprisingly little money. This auction report analyzes the results and shows all the cars in pictures.

The Grand Prix Historique Monaco, an internationally acclaimed event that only takes place every two years and looks back on the history of the famous city circuit, once again provided a more than suitable setting for the auction of just over 50 rare racing and sports cars at Bonhams. On average, the cars were just under 44 years old, i.e. still relatively young. Just two pre-war vehicles were on offer, a Bentley 8-Litre Tourer from 1931 and a Horch 853a Sportcabriolet from 1939. They were both sold, albeit at prices around a third below the estimated value. Almost a quarter of the cars, on the other hand, are not even youngtimer age, the youngest, a Fiat 500 Jollycar from 2017 in the style of the beach cars of the sixties, is practically a new car. The bidding public was less generous here, with only one of the four cars built after 2000 being sold.
