Preview (beginning of the article)
On April 13, Bonhams attempted to auction 84 cars at the Goodwood Members' Meeting. However, the bidders held back: not even three quarters of the offer (72.6%) could be sold. The proceeds were also far below the estimate of 8.8 million pounds. Including the buyer's premium, the total sale price amounted to just 4,884,000 pounds. Instead of the expected 105,000 pounds, each lot fetched an average of just 58,000 pounds. Despite this, there were a few price-smashers such as the Ferrari Testarossa. The red coupé from 1986 exceeded its estimate by 87 percent and found a new owner for 149,500 pounds. The Renault 5 GT Turbo escalated to a similar extent, albeit at only a fifth of the price: The gray firecracker sold for £26,450, an increase of 76 percent over the estimate.
