Belsize 1901-1925 - well-designed, robust and reliable

There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of which have disappeared. One of these vanished brands is Belsize, which emerged from the company Marsthall & Co. Despite carefully designed automobiles and production successes in the decade, the manufacturer did not survive the 1920s due to unfortunate model line decisions.

Marschall & Co was the name of the car manufacturer based on Clayton Lane in Manchester and, like other car pioneers of the time, had made the transition from bicycles to automobiles. The company presented its first car as early as 1897. From 1901, the vehicles and company were called Belsize. The very first design was awarded a gold medal for its efficiency and the car was considered particularly suitable for doctors who had to treat their patients at home over long country roads. Even with its early vehicles, the Belsize company established an excellent reputation as a builder of solid, carefully designed and practical vehicles.
