Avanti 1965 - 2011 - long runners and various factory and manufacturer changes
Summary
There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of them have disappeared. One of these vanished brands is Avanti. Starting with a "Studebaker-Ur-Avanti" launched in 1962 with a few special features, sales went well. This was followed by the first factory change and a new Avanti model, which became a perennial favorite. However, after several changes of manufacturer and new models, production was discontinued in 1991. This was followed in 1998 by a relaunch and later a new Avanti model, production of which was discontinued in Mexico in 2010/11.

The original Avanti presented at the 1962 New York Auto Show was still a Studebaker. Its shape had been created by Raymond Loewy, the pioneer of industrial design. Described as a prestige four-seater coupé, it was based on a box-frame chassis with X-bracing and a 4.7 L V8, optionally with a Paxton supercharger (without horsepower figures, like Rolls-Royce). Special features included the plastic body (like Chevrolet Corvette), front disc brakes, roll-over protection bars, pivot door locks and thermostatic radiator fan. A 5-liter V8 was installed in 1963; around 4600 Avanti GTs were built in 1962 and 1963.
