Early in the morning, the first cars appear at the Quai Albert 1er. The correspondent of the "Automobil-Revue" noted the following with keen observation: "The occupants, who emerged from their vehicles somewhat tired and stiff, aroused amazement and admiration. Some of them were clad in the most outlandish garments, all of which served to keep out the cold. The men wore half beards, as they understandably had more important things to do than shave. Tiredness had dug delicate furrows into the women's faces. Nevertheless, they were all beaming with joy at the successful end to their arduous journey. Of course, they had never seen a bed during the entire journey, so they took a makeshift rest in the carriage itself."
