The Luzzone hill climb, which had been held a week ago in the Valle del Sole, the Blenio Valley, counted as a championship race for the national title for the series touring, touring and racing cars on the one hand, and as a race for the European Championship for the Formula Ford cars on the other. As a result, this event, which was actually a national event, took on international significance.
