The annual Westfalen Trophy took place from October 18 to 20, 2019. The terms "storm" and "racing event" now seem to be almost synonymous: the Westfalen Trophy was also dominated by heavy rain. The same thing happened to the Spa Six Hours 2019, for example, which meant that several races (including the Battle of the Dwarves) had to be canceled at short notice. Nevertheless, the races that were spared from the cancellation were able to keep spectators on the edge of their seats.
Battle of the dwarves
The Battle of the Dwarves was supposed to start on Sunday, October 20, 2019. However, this was canceled at short notice as the weather simply did not want to play along. On the other hand, even if the weather had been fine, the Battle of the Dwarves would probably have been relatively unremarkable compared to other KDZs this year: Only one Abarth, two NSU, two Simca and one Lada turned up at the Nürburgring.
Unfortunately, the Battle of the Dwarves is not the only race that was prevented by the weather: Participants in the Youngtimer Trophy and the Dunlop FHR Endurance Cup were also prevented from driving due to the weather.
Belcar Historic Cup
The starting grid was dominated by BMW, closely followed by Porsche. Among the solo starters were a Vauxhall Astra Mk2, Alpine A110 and a Triumph TR 3 A.
The drivers of the Belcar Historic Cup engaged in tough wheel-to-wheel racing. From start to finish, the spectators were kept on the edge of their seats as two BMWs (namely the 325i of Evertjan Alders and the E30 of Ben Thaens, starting numbers 49 & 69) battled it out for first place. The battle was ultimately won by the BMW 325i (49). The race did not go so well for the fourth-placed Porsche 964 Cup (2). It crossed the finish line just 3 seconds after 3rd place. Compared to the time gap between 4th and 5th place - which was around 24 seconds (!) - the 3-second difference between 3rd and 4th place is a trifle. A similar event could also be observed between 13th and 14th place: Here, too, the time difference was 24 seconds. The last place was ultimately taken by Dieter Kuyl in his Ford Capri (9).
Juri Vannieuwenborgh in his BMW was not classified. The reasons for this are not sufficiently known to the editors.

FHR HTGT Dunlop Trophy
Alfa Romeo was the largest presence on the grid, closely followed by the Porsche brand. The minorities were a Chevrolet Camaro and a Ford Mustang. With a total of 19 laps and a time of 57:31.248 seconds, Markus Niestrath took first place in his Alfa Romeo 1750 GT-Am (770).
Hans-Ulrich Kainzinger (Porsche 911 ST, starting number 642) and Olaf Tergieten (Ford Capri MKI, starting number 790) took second and third place. With just 15 laps and a time of 57:41.923, the Chinese Ian Harris and the German Norbert Schrader finished last (17th) in their BMW 1800 TI (32).
STT H&R Cup
This cup was dominated by rather unknown vehicles. In addition to the better-known representatives of the automotive industry, the starting field also included brands such as Pumaxs, Donkervoort and Ligier. The Pumaxs RT (74) driven by Henk Thuis took first place with a fabulous time of 30:36.754 over 11 laps, closely followed by his German rival Ulrich Becker in the Porsche 997 GT3 R (7).
Third-placed Jürgen Bender reached the finish line around 8 seconds later. Nevertheless, it was still enough for a place on the podium. Bringing up the rear was the German Klaus Abbelen in his Ligier JS-P3 (5) from the racing team with the curious name "Frikadelli Racing". He posted a time of 28:34.349 for a total of 8 laps.
DMV NES500 + BMW 318 TI Cup
The DMV NES500 + BMW 318 TI Cup featured a diverse field of starters. The participants consisted of a wide variety of brands - including BMW, the subsidiary Mini, Porsche, Opel, VW and others. Around 43 cars started in total.
The nationalities of the participants were also very diverse. There were Greeks, Germans, Dutch and many more. The mix of "oldies" and contemporary cars was at least as varied as the nationalities. With a time of 4:02:08.250 for a total of 89 laps, the two Germans Marc Ehret and Jens Wulf in the BMW M4 (599) took first place. Second and third place went to the Dutch team in the BMW M4 KK GTR 3.3 (584) and the Germans Sebastian Sommer and Christian Ladurner in the Seat Leon Cup R (1).
Last place went to the German team consisting of Pia Ohlsson and Thomas Dohmen with their BMW 318ti Cup (568) and a time of 4:04:31.197 for 68 laps.
DMV BMW Challenge
As the title suggests, this race is all about BMW. Only the BMW 318ti Cup model was permitted. The German duo Vollak and Schultz, starting number 507, clearly won the race after 39 completed laps with a time of 2:00:45.082 and were therefore allowed to stand at the top of the podium. It was flanked by the team of four (Ioannis Smyrlis, Christopher Rink, Philipp Stahlschmidt, Justin Wichmann, start number 516) and a team of three (Timo Kaul, Florian Sternkopf, Kevin Walter, start number 521) in second and third place. The 15th and therefore last place was taken by Dirk Ehlebracht and Mathias Gaiser (start number 514). They achieved a time of 2:01:22.333 with a total of 34 laps.
GLP Pro GT and touring cars
The starting field was made up of a colorful mix of vehicle brands. BMW, TVR, Porsche, Autobianchi, Lancia and many other vehicle brands came together and fought a tough battle for first place. In the end, Yannik Dinger took first place in his BMW 325i E36 (633) with a total of 8 laps. However, a distinction must be made between two different races: Christoph Lixl won the first race. Yannik Dinger won the second race. Lixl was absent from this race. The reasons for this are not sufficiently known to the editors.
He was flanked on the podium by second-placed Felix Vaillant in his Renault R5 Alpine Turbo (582) and third-placed Rainer Schaab in his Porsche 911SCR (783). The 52nd and therefore last place was taken by Klaus-Peter Boeck in his Fiat Abarth 1000TC (567). Boeck completed just four laps and was therefore only able to achieve half the number of laps of the first-placed driver. Perhaps things will go better for him next time.
