The Ferguson P99 is the only four-wheel drive formula racing car ever to have won an F1 race. On September 24, 1961, Sir Stirling Moss took advantage of the four-wheel drive in the completely rainy "Oulton Park International Gold Cup Race" and won the race for the 5th time, but for the first time for a Ferguson and uniquely for a 4x4! Unfortunately, Harry Ferguson did not live to see this triumph as he passed away on October 25, 1960. Even then, the four-wheel drive was hard to beat under extreme conditions. On a wet track, the car had a clear advantage as long as it didn't have to fight against the much lighter mid-engined cars. Unfortunately, the car was initially extremely prone to defects and was also pushed offside by the burgeoning mid-engine concepts.
