The fast Matich SR-3 and SR-4 from Downunder
Summary
At the end of the sixties, several sports prototypes were created in Australia, characterized by the racing driver Frank Matich. The exceptionally competitive SR-3 and SR-4 were among the fastest four-wheelers in Australia and won the Australian Sports Car Championship in 1969, among others. This report shows the two sports cars SR-3 and SR-4 and briefly describes their history.

In 1967 and 68, Australian racing driver Frank Matich (born 1935) designed and built several Matich sports prototypes called the SR-3, SR-4 and SR-5 (SR-4B) with the help of Bob Britton and Henry Nehrybecki. At the 2012 Australian F1 GP in Melbourne, a Matich SR-3 and SR-4 each drove a few demonstration laps in accordance with CanAm regulations. The SR-3, built by Bob Britton and powered by an Oldsmobile V8 engine, commanded great respect from its rivals in 1967 when it set the absolute lap record in Surfers Paradise and on the Warwick Farm Circuit. In "Sandown Park" it only just missed it due to the poor road conditions.
