The Emil Frey Classics organization team scheduled the vintage/youngtimer season-opening brunch exactly for 1 May 2022. But for the participants, taking part in the May 1st Day of Work parade in Zurich would probably not have been an alternative anyway, especially as the weather was getting better by the hour.
Around 130 guests accepted the invitation to drive to Safenwil in their old car and enjoy a tasty brunch together.
For dessert, Peter Wälty gave a great talk about James Bond and his inventor Ian Fleming. The audience learned that Fleming (May 28, 1908 - August 12, 1964) often spent time in Switzerland and was even in love with a Swiss woman. However, not everything went as planned, which is why Fleming, who was born rich, did not write very sympathetically about Switzerland in his books.
The range of classic cars was impressive, from the Aston Martin DB6 and Humber to the Lotus Esprit Turbo, as driven by James Bond in the film "For Your Eyes Only" in Cortina d'Ampezzo, there were many British, but also French, German and American classics on site.
Nobody had to go home hungry and for most of the participants, the most important thing about the meeting in Safenwil was the table and petrol talk. And the season was officially opened ...
