In recent years, the creative power of Lancia has been somewhat forgotten in view of the current brand development. The Safenwil GP was a convincing countermeasure. The Lancia Club Suisse, which is celebrating its40th anniversary this year, was invited to the Grand Prix on the grounds of Emil Frey AG. An impressive Lancia factory show was presented in front of around 3,500 spectators.
All generations represented
The Lancia Club Suisse does not just focus on the glorious pre-Fiat era. President Rolf Egli explains: "The LCS sees itself as a national brand club that preserves tradition without closing itself off to the present." Egli also emphasized that Lancia had also produced extremely interesting models in the brand's more recent history.
Rare Lancias from all decades
In fact, the spectators at the Oldtimer Grand Prix were able to see a cross-section of the brand's entire history. For fans of the newer models, for example, there was one of 25 Lancia Hyena built by Zagato, which is based on the platform of the Delta Integrale.
The Milan-based coachbuilder Zagato was well represented. The range extended from two Fulvia Sport and a Flavia Sport to the high-priced Flaminia Super Sport.
Milestones in the brand's development
From the days of company founder Vincenzo Lancia, cars that have since become legends, such as the Lambda saloon and three open-top Aprilias with sleek special bodies by Pinin Farina and Viotti, thrilled the public. In addition to these gems, an Appia Furgoncino - a rare delivery van based on the Lancia Appia - was one of the public's favorites.
Sports models too
Of course, attention was also drawn to the Lancia brand's large sports models. From the Fulvia HF to a Stratos and a Group B Delta S4 to the Delta Integrale, everything that once brought the Turin-based company world rally championship titles was represented.
Committed brand ambassador
On location in Safenwil, the current Miss Switzerland Dominique Rinderknecht stepped out as a Lancia brand ambassador and probably stole the show from one or two classic cars.
While the beauty queen appeared in the passenger seat, other representatives of the female sex took the wheel themselves. The Lady Drivers of the Swiss Motor Veterans Club showed that driving classic cars doesn't have to be a man's job.
Exotic and everyday cars
40 of the 122 cars belonged to the Lancia brand, no other brand had such a large share. The rest were spread across a huge spectrum that included racing and sports cars as well as everyday vehicles from the past.
In perfect weather conditions, the vehicles (and a large number of motorcycles) did their laps, much to the delight of the large number of spectators who, as always, attended the event.
