The 19th Ennstal Classic will soon be starting in Gröbming. The idea for one of today's largest and best-known classic car rallies was born in 1992 on the occasion of the Hungarian GP in the Sauber team's catering tent. Helmut Zwickl, Michael Glöckner and the author of these lines were sitting at a table at the time. This article tells the story of how the Ennstal Classic came about, the most important events of the first edition and looks at the differences to today's internationally renowned event.

The 19th Ennstal Classic will soon be starting in Gröbming. The idea for one of today's largest and best-known classic car rallies was born in 1992 on the occasion of the Hungarian GP in the Sauber team's catering tent. In a tent at Sauber Helmut Zwickl, Michael Glöckner and the author of these lines were sitting at a table at the time. As is usually the case in Budapest, it was scorching hot and we were philosophizing about God and the world. Suddenly we came up with the idea of doing something with historic cars among friends. No, not a coffee trip, it should be something more, we imagined the "something" in the form of a small rally.
