On April 21, 2023, the new special exhibition of the MAC Museum Art & Cars in Singen, which focuses on the two artists and designers Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro, was opened on the occasion of the vernissage.
On display are automobiles, but also other works, from around 60 years of design development. On display are the Chevrolet Corvair Testudo from 1963, a production model of the De Tomaso Mangusta from the late 1960s, the Alfa Romeo Brera concept car, which captivated the public at the Geneva Motor Show in 2002, as well as other concept cars from the work of father and son Giugiaro, such as the BMW Nacza M12 and the GFG Style Kangaroo.
Outrageous creative power
Giorgetto Giugiaro hardly needs an introduction, he has shaped the automotive world for decades and we also have him to thank for popular vehicles such as the Alfasud, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT, the VW Golf and the Fiat Panda. The Maserati Ghibli was also designed by him, as was the Lotus Esprit.
He began his design career at Bertone, then moved to Ghia and founded his own company ItalDesign at the end of the 1960s, which he sold to the Volkswagen Group in 2010. In 2016, he founded the company GFG Style together with his son Fabrizio. Even today, Giorgetto likes to start with a blank sheet of paper and a pencil to develop initial ideas for new products.
Like father like son
Fabrizio Giugiaro followed in his father's footsteps early on and was responsible for hundreds of his own projects, including the BMW Nacza from 1991 shown here.
At the vernissage, he explained that it is important in life to always look ahead. He likes to design his vehicles from the driver's perspective.
No end in sight
At the vernissage, Giorgetto and Fabrizio explained what is important to them in vehicle design and why they are still continuing.
They will soon be presenting new super sports cars with electric drive in the USA. Giorgetto said that he always hoped that his design products would speak for themselves and be able to explain themselves, but sometimes this is just not the case.
An exhibition worth seeing
The special exhibition was opened by museum owners Gabriela and Hermann Mayer, accompanied by automobile curator Emmanuel Bacquet.
The exhibition at the MAC Museum, which will be open to the public from April 22, 2023, will not only show nine cars from the oeuvre of Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro, but also products such as a sewing machine and a chair as well as a model of a bridge designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro.
There are also many design sketches and drafts on display, as well as videos explaining the products and the design philosophy.
The special exhibition can be seen on the third floor of the MAC-2 building until further notice. Further information can be found on the MAC Museum website.
