The Falkenhausen Classics took place around Landshut on July 26 and 27, 2025. The event, which now has a firm place in the calendar at the end of July, is organized by Scuderia Isar e.V., which also runs the Adlkofen Car Museum.
The event is named after Alexander von Falkenhausen. Born in Munich, he was a mechanical engineer and a very successful racing driver. In the 1930s, he won two gold medals at the International Six Days on a BMW R 5 modified by him. After the war, he played a key role at BMW in the development of the engine in the BMW 700, with which he won several victories.
Between hop fields
The participants arrived at Neufahrn Castle in Lower Bavaria from 9 a.m. on Saturday. After registering and receiving their welcome packs, they eagerly attached start numbers and event stickers to their vehicles. All participants then took part in the drivers' briefing before the start of the prologue at 11 am. The route led from Neufahrn via several smaller and larger villages - including Schmatzhausen - through the Hallertau (also known as Holledau), the largest contiguous hop-growing region in the world. The prologue led along the hop fields via Nandlstadt to Freising, where the technical inspection by Dekra took place at lunchtime.
No luck with the weather
The first special stage (SS1), which ran partly south of the Isar and then led back along the hop fields to near the starting point in Pfettrach, started at around 2 pm. After arriving together, there was an evening event. The weather was mostly rainy throughout the weekend. Although there were occasional gaps in the clouds to provide dry spells, you were never completely safe from light to heavy rain. Drivers of pre-war vehicles and open-top roadsters felt this more keenly than participants with coupés and closed bodies.
In general, the proportion of pre-war vehicles was relatively high: out of 60 registered vehicles, ten were built in 1938 or earlier. In view of the rainy weather, however, not all of them made it to the start. The oldest car was a 100-year-old Bugatti.
Ready for the movies
On Sunday morning, the participants met in Essenbach for the start of SS2, which took place at around 9:30 am. This stage led directly to Landshut's old town, where the Concours d'Elegance was held in front of Landshut's town hall upon arrival. Information about each vehicle was presented and the spectators were entertained. At 11:30 a.m., SS3 began in Landshut's old town, which was started in predominantly dry weather. The route led across Lower Bavaria via Adlkofen and Frontenhausen (known from the Eberhofer crime thrillers as "Niederkaltenkirchen" and the location of many film scenes) to Mariakirchen. Lunch was taken there at Mariakirchen Castle before the stage 4, which was characterized by heavy rain, began at around 2:30 pm. The journey finally led via Massing and Gangkofen to Geisenhausen, where the evening together with the award ceremony took place.
