The RAID Suisse-Paris is one of the best-known and largest rally events in Europe. The RAID will be held again in 2012 and offers a varied and rich program.
Lots of new things in August
On Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 12.30 p.m. sharp, the time will come again: the first classic car of the RAID will leave the courtyard of Messe Basel, applauded by thousands of spectators - this is the first big moment for every RAID participant.
And the scenic experience begins immediately. On almost traffic-free French country roads, the route leads to Besançon, from there through unknown Burgundy to the wonderfully preserved city of Troyes.
The famous Buffet champêtre is already a tradition, this time held in the private castle of the Comte de Villefranche. This is the first time that the RAID has spent the night in Troyes and the entire route has never been covered before. This also applies to the glamorous conclusion of the 22nd RAID SUISSE-PARIS at the famous Montlhéry Autodrome near Paris. The circuit dates back to 1924 but is in excellent condition. Here you can drive the legendary banked turns and get to know your car from a completely new perspective. Completely safe, of course. On the sporting side, there will be new stages and drivers in the Sport category can expect a challenging night stage - in often unknown areas. And above them the stars...
Particularly suitable for veterans
The entire route from Basel to Paris has hardly any steep climbs. On the second day, in the heart of Burgundy, a few short stretches with gentle gradients have been selected. These are routes that are particularly beautiful to ride and show Burgundy as a land flowing with milk and honey - far away from the major transit routes. The RAID route promises speedy progress - especially for cars built before 1939.
And, of course, there are also areas where you can stop off at a bistro or two. Unfortunately, more and more bistros are closing in villages and small towns - a trend that can hardly be stopped.
Sporty and challenging
Drivers in the Sport category experience pure rally feeling: higher average speeds, special stages, a special program on the Montlhéry autodrome. The Sport category meets the highest rally requirements. Including the longest and most demanding night stage to date. This category is driven by experts - and connoisseurs! Incidentally, the cars in the Sport category can be recognized by the red start numbers on the rally sign and on the side numbers. Red is the privilege of the sportsmen.
Also or especially for women - the Ladies' Cup
Since 1994, the RAID has had a category reserved exclusively for women's teams. And the ladies often prove to be better pilots and co-pilots than their male competitors. No fewer than 15 women's teams took part in RAID 2011. That number should be reached again this year. We are also planning a special surprise for the Ladies' Drivers!
For the individualistic driver
The number and variety of classic cars taking part in 2012 will once again be impressive. The RAID is a museum on wheels. The RAID is also a very individual pleasure. Over long stretches of time you drive - France is a big country! - alone, at most two or three cars together. Many participants like this aspect in particular. Another nice thing about the RAID is the feeling of community. The certainty of being among your peers. It's an event where the individual and communal experience count equally. And far from any snobbish airs and graces.
Culinary delights
Those looking for culinary delights in addition to the driving challenge can choose the premium package (at an extra charge). It includes dinner and an overnight stay at Château La Dame Blanche, not far from Besançon. Also on the program: Hotels Maison de Rhodes / Champ des Oiseaux and Diner privé with Christian Chavanon (Michelin star) in Troyes. On Saturday, a dinner at Michel Rostang's (2 Michelin stars) in Paris for the first time. Cab or minibus transfers were also included, along with expert accompaniment.
Services for relaxed kilometers
An impressive fleet of breakdown vehicles, towing and workshop vehicles, as well as emergency vehicles from Pantheon Classic Garage ensure carefree stages. They will also be supported by a TCS patrol vehicle.
Medical care will also be provided by an official RAID doctor.
Online registration possible
Everything you need to know about the new RAID can be found on the organizer's website.
Registration is possible online. For two people, participation costs CHF 3,990 in a double room including overnight stays, meals and snacks. The closing date for entries is June 30, 2012.
And, as every year, the popular RAID Prologue Zurich with Concours d'Elegance and 100-mile rally to Basel (bookable separately) will take place before the RAID for the 10th time.
