Summary
For just two years from 1971 to 1973, the Swedish manufacturer Volvo built the P 1800 ES, known in Germany as Snow White's coffin because of its glazed rear end. Thanks to its estate car rear, the P 1800, which had been built since 1959, matured into a versatile sports estate, but remained rare due to its high price. This report introduces the P 1800 ES, portrays an example from the last year of construction and shows the sports estate in historical photographs, supplemented by a sound sample.

Preview (beginning of the article)
When they hear the word "Snow White's coffin", car fans don't primarily think of the temporary resting place of the princess from the fairy tale, which was made into a film by Walt Disney and others. Nor do they think of the Braun Phonosuper SK 4, a radio-record player combination that in 1956, with its acrylic glass cover, evoked associations with Snow White's glazed coffin. Instead, they are looking at a sports estate from Sweden, the Volvo P 1800 ES, which was given this nickname in this country because of its opulent rear glazing, perhaps due to the report in the magazine "Stern", which was entitled "Dream car for Snow White".
