The new Golf finally brings VW that step forward (away from the Beetle monoculture) that would have been due years ago - then with less time pressure than today. The future of the VW Group literally depends on whether the Golf can be delivered as quickly as planned in the fall of 1974 and how mature it is when it goes into mass production. The first Golf 1500 demonstration cars are delivered to VW dealers in the first half of July. Full delivery, including the Golf 1100, will begin after the factory vacation in the second half of August. In our opinion, this new VW, with its emphatically no-nonsense style, fits in well with the sobering car era. It is a temporary hit, a time bomb, and at the same time the VW general attack on all domestic and foreign competitors in this class.
