Test Datsun 240 Z - the affordable sports coupé from Japan (ZQ)
Summary
In 1972, AR tested the first Japanese sports car to be truly recognized in Europe, the Datsun 240 Z. They uncovered a few shortcomings, but attested to the good serviceability of the inexpensive vehicle. They also emphasized that the demands on a mass-produced sports car can certainly be higher than on an exotic car. The test shows the results of the driving performance measurements (0-100 km/h in 10 s) and the fuel consumption measurements. The original pictures have been restored and reprocessed.

Sports cars for everyday use, which roll off the production lines of large automobile factories in large numbers, rarely shine with technical specialties. They are almost all derived from the saloons of their brand and have the same or only slightly modified mechanical units as those. This is why they lack the stamp of exclusivity that characterizes the more expensive luxury sports cars built in small numbers, but they are regarded as vehicles that are as sophisticated as they are reliable, suitable for everyday use and still reasonably priced, making only modest demands on their owners in terms of maintenance, care and upkeep costs.
