Silent night, hurried night ... or the somewhat different Christmas story

On the occasion of the Le Mans Classics event, the author had the opportunity to photograph the 1966 Le Mans winner on a lap by himself. Unfortunately, this lap took place on the darkest night. A good ten years later, he looks back and writes this very special Christmas story.

"Silent night, holy night, everything sleeps, lonely wakes, only the dear and holy couple ...", namely the Ford GT40, its descendant and yours truly are standing by. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the GT40's triple victory in 1966, the 2006 Le Mans Classic gave its approval for a photo session with the first GT40 and the then current GT. However, nobody knew beforehand that the only possible slot for this one lap would have to take place in the middle of the night and therefore in complete darkness. But photographers always work anyway, regardless of whether it's hot, cold, foggy, wet, Christmas, New Year, Easter or even in complete darkness. But the fact that black darkness doesn't produce any pictures apart from black screens seemed to be a minor matter.
