Summary
From 1986 to 1994, Saab built the Saab 900 Cabriolet with four-cylinder engines, which were equipped with or without turbochargers. Almost 50,000 units were sold, and Americans in particular were obsessed with the Swedish convertible. Thanks to four full-size seats and a weatherproof soft top, the car was suitable for use all year round and, thanks to the good build quality, this is still the case today. This driving report describes the history of the Saab 900 Cabriolet and shows it in historical and new pictures.

When the days get shorter and shorter and the snow, ice and cold make it seem advisable to stay indoors, you would think that the convertible season has come to an end. Or is it? Imaginative advertising people working for Saab in 1988 saw it differently. Under the title "The new season is about to start: winter begins on December 21", they wrote: "What do you do with a Saab convertible in winter? Exactly the same as in summer. You drive it. The soft top (one push of a button and it slides forward over the seats with a quiet whirring sound, two hand movements and it locks) is absolutely waterproof and effectively keeps out the wind and wind noise. This is because it is triple-lined. The rear window, made of real glass and not plastic, can be heated, as can the seats (upholstered in the finest leather) and the exterior mirrors.
