Photo Gallery «Potatoes for gourmets - Peugeot 404 GTI in (historical) test»
In October 1962, Peugeot, a brand considered to be conservative, was one of the first to offer not only its sports models but also its saloons with fuel injection. The mechanical Kugelfischer system in the Peugeot 404 GTI increased the performance and smoothness of the four-cylinder engine and reduced fuel consumption and cold-start worries. Driving comfort was also high, as was typical for the country. However, the car, which was otherwise considered so solid, surprised with its unusually careless workmanship. This historical test report from 1965 explains how the fuel injection worked and, of course, tests the qualities of the Peugeot 404.
