Summary
Panhard & Levassor is one of those brand names that have been indelibly etched into the first pages of automotive history. Already active in woodworking machinery and carriage construction before the advent of the automobile, the step into the new industry was relatively obvious for this company. The "Levassor" eventually fell away. In the mid-1940s, the Panhard company launched its first post-war model, the Panhard Dyna. Depending on their top speed, these vehicles were called Dyna 110, Dyna 120 or Dyna 130. This first generation was followed by a second generation, introduced by the '54' model, and even a third, in which the vehicles were called "PL 17". Aerodynamic finesse and an advanced design combined with a high level of comfort, good space and low prices made the vehicles a success. Only Citroën showed no real interest, which meant the end of the series. This report focuses on the early history of the Panhard Dyna. Later vehicles are only briefly mentioned. The article is supplemented by many historical illustrations and extensive sales brochures.

Panhard & Levassor is one of those brand names that have been indelibly etched into the first pages of automotive history. Already active in woodworking machinery and carriage construction before the advent of the automobile, this company's move into the new industry was relatively obvious. Thanks to Mrs. Sarazin's (later Mrs. Levassor) connection to Daimler, these vehicles were also noticed in Germany. The fact that a Panhard & Levassor (powered by a Daimler engine) won the first car race together with a Peugeot is only briefly mentioned here. Soon after the pioneering days, the company produced luxury class cars and remained true to this until the Second World War. The valveless SS (sans soupapes) and the "streamlined" Dynamic models deserve special mention.
