Summary
In September 1973, Opel presented the Kadett C as a sedan, station wagon and coupé. Despite many shared components, the two-door coupé was the prettiest Kadett variant, which quickly found many friends, even when there were no fuel-injected engines under the hood to ensure sporty performance. The S engine produced 60 hp in the Coupé and with SR equipment it was hardly inferior to the faster versions, at least visually. This driving report describes the history of the Kadett C Coupé, gives driving impressions and shows an example from 1978 in many pictures. The report is supplemented by a sound sample and historical illustrations.

"Coupé" is a French term that can be translated into German as "geschnitten/cut off". However, the word also refers to an automobile body shape that is created by cutting out parts or cutting off elements of a saloon. Economical carmakers were content with mounting the front and rear windows slightly flatter and dispensing with two doors, while other manufacturers redesigned the rear (often in the direction of "fastback") and also shortened the wheelbase if necessary. Opel took a middle course with the Kadett C: the wheelbase remained the same, the coupé had its own line from the B-pillar onwards, and it was 3.5 centimetres lower than the saloon. However, the wheelbase and track remained the same. Nevertheless, the coupé was by far the most beautiful representative of the Kadett C.
