The Opel Kadett's first career ended in 1940 after the outbreak of war in Europe. It only returned in 1962 to become the most successful model in the brand's fleet for the next 30 years. Compact cars have a long tradition at Opel. However, younger generations will only be familiar with the Astra series, which has been available in Europe since 1991, and its recently presented sixth generation. However, Opel compact cars were already available from 1936 with the Kadett series, but the compact cars from Rüsselsheim only really took off after the war. From 1962, the Kadett A made small families mobile. This was followed by the Kadett B from 1965 to 1975 and three further generations until 1993. But it was above all the first model series that remained in the memories of classic car enthusiasts, as they embodied the new era in Germany. People could afford something. Buying a Kadett brought something of the big wide world into the rustic oak living room at home. Later, the first generations of Kadett were used as inexpensive second-hand cars to mobilize students. The Kadett was reliable and cheap to maintain - arguments for a long car life, which was often extended with nightly sweat marathons.
