Rapid automatism - Opel GT 1900 in the (historical) test
Summary
This historical test recommends something that few sports car enthusiasts would have thought of at the time: buying an Opel GT with automatic transmission. Reason: With such a racy line, the last bit of driving performance doesn't matter. It is therefore almost surprising that the test report still recommends the large 1.9-liter engine and not the phlegmatic 1100.

The GT 1100 is not interesting. Only the Kadett 60 hp SR engine for DM 11,100. Quite good steam for the displacement, but not for the money or the looks. It is still in the program, but we leave it behind. If GT, then 1900, which also has the right equipment. The 1100 lacks a few things. From a purely technical point of view, we initially preferred the 1100. Lighter machine, lighter rear axle, more balanced weight ratios, so far everything was fine. But not for 11,100 DM. The 1900 GT cost 12,210 DM. We recommend the three-phase alternator (11.82 DM), front and rear stabilizer (57.72 DM), heated rear window (81.03 DM). If possible, a windshield made of laminated glass (124.32 DM) if you drive with seat belts. The laminated glass cannot suddenly disintegrate into crumbs, but shards make cuts. With the recommended ingredients, you pay DM 12,360.57 for the 1900 GT. With laminated glass, 12,484.89 DM. A lot of money for a car with the tame Opel 1900S/90PS engine. But a fair price for the car with the engine in it.
