Naturally, the magazine 'hobby' did not miss the opportunity to take a seat behind the wheel as soon as possible. Editor Sponsel even gave the 190 SL a lot of racing potential. In recent weeks, the eyes of all those interested in what is happening on the international automobile market have once again turned to Untertürkheim, the traditional site of automobile construction. This time, two surprises were presented to the public for the first time: the 300 SL as a production sports car and a completely new development, the 190 SL touring sports car. 'hobby' was one of the first magazines to present both cars to its readers in detail and had the opportunity to familiarize itself in particular with the 190 SL, the new star in the automotive firmament. The 190 SL combines two characteristics: it can be used as a touring car and everyday utility vehicle as well as a sports car in international races, reliability drives and rallies. The exterior shape shows the sophisticated elegance that already caused a sensation with the 300 SL. The car is a roadster with a retractable soft top and normally has two seats, behind which a third seat can be fitted as an emergency seat.
