They are both legends in their own right: the Land Rover and the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama is the secular and spiritual leader of the Buddhist Tibetans, his title translates as "Ocean of Wisdom". Buddhism is one of the world's great religions and is particularly widespread in Asia. Tenzin Gyatso is the current 14th Dalai Lama and was born on July 6, 1935 in a small farming village in the Tibetan province of Amdo. His parents gave him the name Lhamo Thöndup. After the death of the 13th Dalai Lama, Lhamo was found in 1939 by a search party of high-ranking monks through clues and prophecies and brought to the Tibetan capital Lhasa. There he was given his current name, ascended the Lion Throne at the age of four and a half and became the 14th Dalai Lama.
