With all-wheel drive, a central limited slip differential, off-road reduction in combination with a reasonably comfortable self-supporting body, the Lada Niva was unique. The all-wheel-drive Lada Niva felt pretty rustic back in 1978 when it came onto the market. About 30 years later, when the car portrayed here was built, very little had changed and the ride in the 20-year-old Lada is very reminiscent of the past, when you still had to really get stuck in and electronic assistants were science fiction. As early as 1970, Russian Prime Minister Alexei Nikolaevic Kosygin wanted a domestic off-road vehicle that was not geared towards military purposes. The contract for the development was awarded to the AvtoVAZ automobile plant and the first drives in a prototype were undertaken as early as 1972.
